Golf Odds

Golf odds can be displayed in two different formats and it usually depends on what sportsbook you’re betting with. The odds may look a lot different, but they mean the exact the same thing so as long as you know how to read both of the formats then you’ll be good to go as far as reading the odds goes. We’re going to take a look an example of a golf bet in both formats so that no matter what type of odds your sportsbook posts you’ll be able to understand them.

How to Read Golf Odds

The first format that we’re going to take a look at is the way you’ll find the odds posted on North American sportsbooks.

· Tiger Woods -300

· Ernie Els – +500

· Vijay Singh – -125

In the above example you have the choice between the three following golfers. Tiger woods is the golf betting favourite to win the group at -300 and these odds mean that it would take $300 to win $100. Ernie Els is the underdog of the group and there are amazing odds of +500 on him to win the group. If you bet $100 on Ernie and he won the group you’d win $500. If you bet on Vijay then it would take a $125 wager to win $100.

· Tiger Woods – 2/1

· Ernie Els – 75/1

When you’re betting on a golfer to win an entire event the odds can vary greatly based on the golfer you’re betting on. Often online sportsbooks will post odds for almost all, if not all of the golfers competing in the tournament. With over 100+ golfers in every tournament there are some massive underdogs to be had. In the above example if you bet on Tiger to win the event and he did then you’d win $2 for every $1 you wagered. If you bet on Ernie to win the event and he managed to upset everyone and finish first place then you’d win $75 on every $1 wagered.

Types of Golf Bets

There aren’t that many types of golf bets that you can wager on, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a good sport to wager on. There just aren’t really many betting options to choose from. You can select from betting on each game or each round. As you know there are four rounds in every golf event. Another type of wager that you can make on golf is a match-up wager. There will be anywhere from 2-5 golfers in each group and you’ll need to decide which golfer you think is going to win out of the group of golfers. The payouts will be smaller on match-up bets, but they are easier to win then picking a winner out of the entire playing field.

I have found that betting on match-ups is an easy way to profit every weekend. There are some golfers that you know are going to finish in the top 10 9 times out of 10 so it can be fairly easy finding a good match-up bet. One more type of bet you can make in golf is a show bet which is where you pick a golfer to finish in 1st – 5th place.
